Customs duties and taxes

  • Purchases by individuals on certified platforms (Remessa Conforme): 0% federal import tax up to US$50 since 12 May 2026; from US$50 to US$3,000 the tax is 60% minus a US$30 discount. ICMS (state tax, about 17% to 20%) is added.
  • Parcels outside Remessa Conforme — for example sent through an agent — usually pay 60% import tax plus ICMS.
  • Companies importing in the normal regime pay import duty (II) by NCM code, plus IPI, PIS/COFINS and ICMS: the total is often much higher than the product price alone.

Rules and documents

  • Companies need a RADAR Siscomex registration to import; individuals need a CPF on every parcel (companies a CNPJ).
  • Many products need approvals: INMETRO (toys, electrical goods), ANVISA (cosmetics, food, health products), ANATEL (phones and wireless devices).
  • Main seaport: Santos; air cargo arrives mostly at São Paulo (Guarulhos and Viracopos).

Our tips

Calculate taxes before you order: for many products they decide whether importing is worth it.

Check the ANATEL or INMETRO status of your product before you buy — without it the goods can be blocked.

By sea, Santos is about 28 to 38 days at sea.

Customs rules change often. This page was checked in October 2026 and is general information, not legal or tax advice: confirm the duty rate of your product with a customs broker before you import.
